The Pallid Carrier is a thin fragile shell. Its upper surface has oblique vertical ribs, covered by shells and other debris. The color is white to yellowish white. If the shell has over exposure to sunlight, its colors are sometimes pale looking. Cassis Rufa belongs to the group of shells called Helmet shells. It is often called the Bull's Mouth Helmet. Scientific name Cypraecassis Rufa Linnaeus.
The Cassis Rufa is a thick heavy shell. It is ornamented with 3 or 4 rows of blunt knobs with size decreasing toward the anterior end. It has smaller tubercles and pitted grooves between the rows. You will notice between 20 to 24 teeth along the outer lip. The body has shades of red and brown; vertical and spiral riblets are whitish. Its folds are white separated by dark brown.
